We want to present you another good way to Study Spanish in Argentina: I am Buenos Aires is an online platform where you will find short documentary films about normal people who have outstanding stories in Buenos Aires. The project aims to develop a big community to inspire through the histories and, in a long term, create opportunities for the community to interact and to connect with each other.

The project was born in 2012 and was inspired by a similar idea in Los Angeles (actually called I am Los Angeles). The founders are Martine Lemans, Sabine van Ditzhuijzen, Emilia van Tuyll and Sanne de Bruijn. Maybe you find the names a little unusual to be argentinian, but that’s precisely because 2 of them are dutch.

To visit the project, go to iambuenosaires.com

Let’s take a look at some of the interesting stories on I am Buenos Aires

Juan, a building porter in Belgrano

In the argentinian crisis of 1989, Juan became unemployed and had to take a job at a building. With the assistance of carlos, they are in charge of the maintenance of the place, doing all kind of tasks: electric arrangements, plumbing, cleaning, etc. Juan knows everyone who lives in his 18-floor building and says that he has no wishes and that every desire in his life has been accomplished.

Nicholas, the runner

“The act of running has been incorporated into my life and it’s a delightful and indispensable part of my daily living.” says Nicholas, who used to lived in a farm and came to Buenos Aires to finish his studies. Now that he has finished them, he wants to move out from Buenos Aires. It seems that he will continue running.

Emanuel, singing on the subway

Emanuel’s dream is to sing with the folk singer Soledad Pastorutti. At the age of 14, he knows best than anyone what happens under the streets of Buenos Aires. He spends the day on the subway with his father Walter, singing and delighting people with a contagious joy and good sense of humor.

Anita & the fashion

Anita came to Buenos Aires three years ago. His father is from Argentina, his mother Dutch and a holiday in Argentina changed her life. She met her current boyfriend in a bar in Buenos Aires and decided to move over here. After a year of working as an employee, she decided to try her luck by creating her own clothing brand. Fashion was Anita’s first passion, it’s in her blood. Now she manages her brand “Vintage”.
